Heroclip Carabiner Hook Clip Review

In the spring, we got in touch with the American company Heroclip which has since 2018 ran three successful funding campaigns on Indiegogo and raised several hundred thousand dollars. Now, I’m typically not a big fan of testing Indiegogo and Kickstarter products because I’ve been often disappointed with them. However, Heroclip seemed like an interesting product which I could use on my hiking adventures as well as in everyday life. Therefore, I agreed to test it in return for an unbiased review.

So, what is the Heroclip? It is basically a carabiner with an adjustable rotating hook which enables you to hang and attach various items in numerous ways. When I was watching the presentation video, I realized that I could for example use it for attaching my Primus backpacking stove to tree branches which I had otherwise been doing with paracord. During the testing period the past months I figured out that Heroclip can be used for much more and below is the review.

Heroclip is suitable for:

  • Hiking
  • Travelling
  • Backpacking
  • Everyday life

The Concept and Models

So, the product kind of consists of two integrated parts. The first part is a wiregate carabiner and the second part is a hook which is attached to the carabiner on the opposite side of the gate. This hook is what makes the Heroclip special. The hook can be turned around 360 degrees and has a rubber tip at the end. The rubber tip ensures that the product attaches nicely also to slippery surfaces. The whole thing thus allows you to easily hang things and secure them. The hook also nicely folds (it has two joints) and the folded product is not much bigger than a standard carabiner.

There are three different sizes of Heroclip: Mini, Small and Medium. The Mini can hold up to 40 lbs. and packed measures 1.8 x 2.25 in. It has a very small hook and thus it’s best for hanging stuff in the closet. The Small model is bigger (2.4 x 3 in.) and can hold more weight (50 lbs.). This is the model I ended up using the most, not because it can hold more weight but because the hook has really good size which enables you to attach it to most objects. The Heroclip Medium holds up to 60 lbs. and measures 3 x 3.75 in. I haven’t used it very often because the medium was suitable for most things and is lighter and less bulky. Note that the product is not suitable/intended for climbing.

Materials and Quality

According to the Heroclip, all their carabiner hook clips are made of solid aircraft grade aluminum with an anodized finish.  I must say that I was impressed over the material and quality. Although the carabiner is very sturdy it is also lightweight. The Mini model weighs merely 0.7 oz. while the Small model weighs 1.1 oz. The Medium model is heavier and weighs 2 oz. The joints are also of high-quality and the rubber tips don’t show any signs of wear after several months of use. All in all, the Heroclip seems like a high-quality product.

What is the Heroclip used for?

I use the Heroclip for attaching my gear to tree branches while backpacking and to organize my hiking closet at home. I often attach my Primus stove to a tree branch with Heroclip because doing so allows me to cook standing. It is also useful for hanging a backpack and other gear on tree branches, for example when you are hammock backpacking or using a similar minimalistic shelter, where there is no space for storing gear. In addition to that, I also found the product useful for drying clothes while on the trail. At home I use it to hang my backpacks, climbing helmet and products packed in pouches/stuff sacks in the closet. You can also use the Heroclip as a regular carabineer to hang items from your backpack while on the go. There are many other ways how to use the Heroclip and if you want some inspiration do check out their Instagram page.

Verdict

The Heroclip is an interesting product which allows you to easily hang various items in the nature as well as at home. The product is made of high-quality materials which ensure good durability. During the testing period I haven’t encountered any issues with the product. I found it particularly useful for hanging stuff on tree branches while backpacking and organizing my hiking closet at home. If you need such a product, I do highly recommend going for the Heroclip.
